RPP-N bandh hits valley
Supporters of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal protest in Kathmandu on Monday. The party called a banda in the capital demanding a referendum on constitutional monarchy, federalism and secularism.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N), on Monday called a valley bandh demanding that Nepal be declared a Hindu state, referendum on some key issues to be incorporated in the new constitution including constitutional monarchy and federalism.
Normal life in Kathmandu has been adversely affected due to the bandh. All the markets, educational institutions, transportation and industries remained closed in the Valley.
Heavy security has been deployed in the sensitive areas of the agitation as a precaution to prevent violence but the demonstrators have already vandalised almost a dozen vehicles in Kalanki, Chabahil, Gausala, Koteshwor and Patan accusing them of defying the bandh.
Meanwhile more than 200 cadres including Tanka Dhakal, RPP-N general secretary and a former minister were arrested by the police.
On Sunday evening the party cadres organised a massive torch rally in Kathmandu.
